Bee venom or apitoxin in its raw form is a bitter colourless liquid, which active portion is a mixture of proteins and peptines melittin and apamin. Bee venom causes local inflammation and acts as an anticoagulant. Therefore the usage of bee venom against rheumatism is a classic component of apitherapy.
