More effort, less material

CosmeticBusiness showcases the latest cosmetic packaging

The megatrend of sustainability is shaping current packaging solutions for the cosmetics industry. Recycled and recyclable materials such as glass, paper fibres and single-material plastics are therefore shaping many innovations. At the same time, cosmetic products are being presented in increasingly elaborate ways. This year’s CosmeticBusiness, taking place on 10 and 11 June at the MOC in Munich under the motto ‘Shaping Trends into Products’, will showcase the industry’s current themes and pioneers. We provide an overview of the key trends.

Trend 1: More glass, less plastic

Circularity over single-use: environmental friendliness is now the norm in the cosmetics industry. International packaging specialist Aptar Beauty, for example, is showcasing a high-quality airless glass dispenser designed to better protect formulations whilst reducing plastic consumption. According to the company, the transparent glass body is recyclable in glass recycling bins. Packaging group Quadpack is also introducing a 50-millilitre glass jar with a thick base for premium skincare products, which contains 30 per cent recycled glass. The inner part and lid are made from single-material polypropylene – they can be refilled and easily recycled. Quadpack is also showcasing a panstick made from recycled polypropylene, which is also refillable.

Trend 2: More effects on the beauty shelf

More growth, more competition: standing out on the cosmetics shelf is becoming increasingly important for brands. The Edelmann Group is therefore presenting elaborate fibre-based packaging with surprise effects and a high-quality feel at CosmeticBusiness. The Bavarian masterbatch manufacturer Lifocolor is also focusing on new metallic, holographic and iridescent effects, as well as new textures in the surface finishing of plastic packaging, to encourage impulse purchases. The Viennese packaging manufacturer MM Packaging is presenting elaborate gift set displays with gloss effects on FSC-certified cardboard, as well as new 3D metallisation effects, at the supplier event. Packaging specialist Albéa is also showcasing applicators with transparent tips that make cosmetic formulations visible during application.

Trend 3: Innovative pumps

The inner workings of cosmetics and perfume products are also changing: the long-established Hamburg-based group Treffpack is introducing a new spray system for a fine mist that does not require propellants. The spray head is durable and reusable, whilst the bottle is refillable and recyclable. The Chinese packaging manufacturer Tianshi is presenting a pump with an integrated cap. It enables controlled application without a separate protective cap, as the system seals itself after each dispense. The Italian specialist in cosmetic packaging, Lumson, has developed a pump mechanism without metal components, utilising an innovative medical-grade polymer. It has RecyClass certification and is fully compatible with polypropylene material streams, according to the company.

CosmeticBusiness will take place on 10 and 11 June 2026 at the MOC in Munich. Tickets are available at the online ticket shop .
