L'Oréal refills
Cosmetics group significantly expands refill range and motivates customers
L'Oréal is expanding its range of refill products in all business areas in German-speaking countries. The range of so-called "refills" is being expanded for skin and hair care brands such as Garnier, L'Oréal Paris and CeraVe as well as refillable perfume packaging for Mugler and Prada, for example, the Group has now announced. This is intended to emphasise the company's pioneering role in sustainable consumption in the cosmetics industry. The company has set itself the goal of switching completely to refillable, reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging by 2030. The aim is to significantly reduce plastic waste and the CO2footprint.
Celebrities clarify
The Group emphasises that it wants to give customers easier access to more sustainable products. Numerous L'Oréal brands such as L'Oréal Professionnel, Kérastase, La Roche Posay and Lancôme already offer refill solutions to reduce plastic waste and conserve resources. The traditional company now wants to expand education with its retail partners and via various media channels in order to make the topic of refilling more visible, remove barriers and make it easier to use. Celebrity testimonials such as actresses Emma Watson, Eva Longoria and Nilam Farooq as well as various influencers will demonstrate on social media how easy refilling is. At the same time, campaigns will be launched on TV, in print and online.
More than just a good resolution
"We see it as our responsibility to create sustainable solutions and minimise our ecological footprint," emphasises Kiri Trier, Sustainability Manager for L'Oréal in the DACH region. The expansion of the refill range is an important step towards making cosmetics more sustainable. L'Oréal has been focusing on environmentally friendly activities since 2020 with its sustainability programme "L'Oréal for the Future". The first refill offers already exist for fragrances, skincare, make-up and shampoos. The group is represented at four locations in Germany, including a factory in Karlsruhe.
