Unilever cautiously optimistic
Group increases sales and profitability - but implements savings
The consumer goods group Unilever closed the past year with growing sales. As the Group announced, with brands such as Axe, Duschdas, Signal, Dove, Pond's and Domestos, turnover rose to 60.8 billion euros. Net profit amounted to 5.8 billion euros. This year, turnover is expected to increase by at least three percent. However, the situation in China, where a decline was recorded, is challenging. Up to 7,500 jobs, mainly in administration, are to be cut and 800 million euros saved with a cost-cutting program. According to Unilever, 4,300 jobs have already been cut. “We are further sharpening our portfolio and allocating capital to premium segments,” emphasized CEO Hein Schumacher.
