Sustainable alliances
Cosmetics brands rely on specialised packaging partners
The cosmetics industry is focusing on sustainable, functional packaging solutions in the development of innovative products and is also announcing collaborations with specialised partners in the packaging industry. Recent examples show that well-known brands are relying on such alliances, with packaging companies promoting the use of mono-materials, recycled materials and refill solutions in order to meet environmental requirements and improve the customer experience. For example, MyBestPharm uses plastic bottles from German packaging manufacturer Rebhan for its MyBestDermo Kids skincare range. The two new products, "Dermo Wash" and "Dermo Balm" for children's sensitive skin, are filled into "Bria Low Shape" bottles made of HDPE. The design with straight shoulders and gold elements is an integral part of the brand image.
Clarins and Aptar with premium solution
In the premium segment, French cosmetics group Clarins and packaging manufacturer Aptar Beauty are collaborating. Together, they have developed a new version of the patented Gaïa airless packaging for the best-selling anti-ageing eye cream "Total Eye Lift". The recyclable metal container can be refilled with replaceable plastic refills. According to Aptar, refilling reduces the ecological footprint by around 73 per cent. Clarins aims to combine innovative luxury design with sustainable refillability and customer experience in this product.
Quadpack for masstige brands
Different material variants are available for the Serenity Tube's sleeve and cap, with a fully recycled PP cap and 50 per cent PCR content in the sleeve. This reduces the carbon footprint by around 20 per cent. The first lip gloss container made entirely from PET, Lola Dip-In, is also made from pure mono-material PET. The bottle body is produced at Quadpack's German factory in Kierspe. Versions with a higher recycled content are also planned for the future. According to Quadpack, Lola is primarily aimed at mass-market brands that focus on sustainable products and high-quality design. The cosmetics industry is increasingly drawing on the expertise of well-known packaging manufacturers whose sustainability skills go beyond the container itself and who can help determine the success of a new product.
