New York-based fragrance and ingredients group IFF has unveiled its new Sensora fragrance technology. The company stated that it had been developed to meet the growing demand for longer-lasting fragrances. The patent-pending platform offers an evolving fragrance profile with a continuous, controlled and phased release over an extended period.

Release triggered by light

According to the company, the fragrance can remain detectable for up to 20 days after activation. It can be activated by both indoor and outdoor light, IFF said. The fragrance-release system was initially developed for applications in home and textile care and could also be used in personal care products in the future. IFF presented ‘Floral Fusion’ as the first fragrance on the Sensora platform, designed for liquid laundry detergents to release floral notes on dry laundry. Sensora, however, is a scalable platform for various applications and categories, including cosmetics. Perfumers can integrate the technology into fragrance compositions and specifically control how the scent develops.

The US-based company “International Flavours & Fragrances” was founded in the Netherlands as early as 1889 and, following the Second World War, established itself in New York as an international supplier of flavours, fragrances, food ingredients, health solutions and life sciences. In 2025, the group, with around 22,000 employees, generated a turnover of more than ten billion US dollars.
