Procter & Gamble joins German AI network
Group brings global expertise to Baden-Württemberg
The American consumer goods group Procter & Gamble is joining the Baden-Württemberg-based Centre for Artificial Intelligence (IPAI). The move is intended to expand the company’s AI activities and contribute experience from research, product development, manufacturing, cybersecurity and sustainable transformation to the platform, it was reported. The group, which operates in 70 countries, is working globally to improve processes using data and to translate innovations into products more quickly. Many innovations are already being developed at the “German Innovation Centre”, P&G’s largest research site outside the US, which employs 1,400 people.
The aim is more efficient product development
A key focus of IPAI membership is to be “predictive manufacturing”, with the aim of analysing production processes proactively and managing manufacturing more efficiently. In addition, the focus will also be on prototyping and product design. According to P&G, the company is already utilising data-driven, AI-supported approaches at its eight production plants in Germany. “Through the ecosystem of partners on the IPAI platform, we will work to increase efficiency in manufacturing processes and use AI even more strategically in product development,” announced Astrid Teckentrup, Chair of the Management Board of Procter & Gamble in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
A European hotspot
The Artificial Intelligence Innovation Park (IPAI) in Heilbronn was founded in 2021 by the state of Baden-Württemberg to help businesses and the public sector advance their work on AI solutions. Participants include the Schwarz Group, with Lidl and Kaufland, as well as the Dieter Schwarz Foundation. The state provided €50 million in start-up funding. The first building was occupied in 2024. In addition, a large international campus is being developed as a European hub for artificial intelligence. Construction began in October 2025. Moritz Gräter, CEO of IPAI, explained that Procter & Gamble’s involvement sends a strong signal for Germany as an AI hub.
