Plants for sensitive skin
BASF presents new active ingredient Ameriflor Calm
BASF has introduced Ameriflor Calm, a plant-based active ingredient designed to make sensitive skin more resilient. The company emphasises that the new product helps to reduce redness and transepidermal water loss and better protects the skin from environmental influences. The ingredient comes from organic farms in Oregon that have been certified by the Regenerative Organic Alliance. This ensures complete traceability, fair labour practices and environmental protection. In addition, Ameriflor Calm is manufactured at an American production site that is powered by renewable electricity from solar and wind energy.
Indigenous traditions, modern technologies
BASF emphasises that Ameriflor Calm is an example of sustainability and ethical practices. In today's market, where consumers value transparency and efficiency, Ameriflor Calm combines herbal knowledge from indigenous traditions with modern scientific techniques to improve the resilience of sensitive skin, emphasised BASF manager Lucilene Veira-Nunes. The resilient self-healing plant "common self-heal" (Prunella vulgaris), which has long been used in traditional indigenous practices, is used in the product.
Test successes for a growth market
According to BASF, Ameriflor Calm has been tested in clinical trials with participants with sensitive skin. After seven days, the ingredient showed a ten percent improvement in skin redness at a concentration of one percent. Further positive results were observed after 28 days. Water loss improved by eleven percent after seven days. Sensitive skin types are currently considered a rapidly growing market in the cosmetics industry. Worldwide, up to 70 per cent of women and 60 per cent of men are affected by sensitive skin.
