New 2024 minimum standard promotes recycling of packaging
More clarity and precision
The Central Agency Packaging Register (Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister, ZSVR) has published the Minimum Standard 2024, which assesses the recyclability of packaging more precisely. Thanks to technical advances in recycling plants, more plastic and aluminium components, especially from liquid cartons and films, can now be recycled. The new standard helps companies to assess their packaging more clearly in terms of recyclability and to prepare for the planned EU packaging regulation (PPWR). This is expected to come into force gradually from mid-2026. In future, this will oblige industry and retailers to ensure that packaging contains a certain proportion of recyclate.
