French active ingredient manufacturer Gattefossé has introduced ‘Silkaress’, a new cosmetic active ingredient designed to soothe sensitive and stressed skin. Derived from white mulberry leaves, the ingredient is based on purely plant-based biotechnology and is said to strengthen the skin barrier and reduce irritation. It is modelled on the interaction between silkworms and white mulberry leaves, from which the silk cocoon is formed, as silkworms feed exclusively on these leaves. According to the company, Silkaress acts on cellular adaptation mechanisms and improves skin comfort and resilience to changing climatic conditions.
