Luxurious recycled plastic

Amcor supplies sustainable packaging for Guerlain hand creams

Global packaging giant Amcor is supplying premium packaging made from high-quality recycled post-consumer polymer (PCR) for the new "Aqua Allegoria" hand cream range from luxury brand Guerlain. As the new Guerlain hand creams are made from 97 per cent natural ingredients, it is important that the packaging also reflects the brand's premium identity and demonstrates Maison Guerlain's commitment to sustainability, the company emphasised. "The cosmetics industry is facing the challenge of reconciling the once conflicting requirements of luxury and sustainability," emphasised Marine Sueur, Sales Director for France at Amcor.

High-purity household waste

To meet this requirement, Amcor has developed its own Clean Stream technology. It aims to fill the market gap with a high-quality polymer that matches the properties of virgin material. The technology mechanically processes recycled polypropylene household waste into high-purity recycled plastic that is suitable for touch-sensitive applications. The process uses several AI-driven sorting steps, including automated identification, sorting and decontamination, to achieve high quality. This allows the recycled polymer to be incorporated into the Aqua Allegoria bottle without compromising the aesthetics, product protection and functionality of the packaging. The bottle and cap are manufactured at two Amcor factories in France, providing Maison Guerlain with a complete packaging solution.

In the spirit of the bee

The bottle's design is inspired by the hexagonal shape of a honeycomb and reflects the bee that has been the emblem of Maison Guerlain since 1853. It is produced in three colours to identify the different variants in the range. Its multi-layered structure protects the quality of the creams. The bottle is screen-printed and, like the cap, finished with a matt, colourless lacquer. Made exclusively from polypropylene, the bottle can be recycled in Europe at standard recycling points after use. Headquartered in Zurich and originally founded in Australia, Amcor is a leading global provider of packaging solutions for consumer and healthcare products, with 70,000 employees in 140 countries.
