Drugstore pioneer Dirk Roßmann receives the German Entrepreneurship Award
Dirk Roßmann, the founder of self-service drugstores in Germany, has been awarded the German Entrepreneurship Award for his lifetime’s work. The jury recognised his pioneering work in the retail sector, the establishment of an internationally successful family business, and his ability to combine entrepreneurial success with social responsibility. Now aged 80, he is committed to educational and development projects and has recently also made a name for himself as an author. In March 1972, as a 25-year-old chemist, Roßmann opened Germany’s first self-service chemist’s shop in Hanover. Now in its second generation, the family business operates more than 5,200 branches across Europe, employs more than 67,000 people and achieved a turnover of 16.6 billion euros last year.
