BASF focuses on a two-pronged approach to care and experiences
The BASF Group has unveiled a new formulation concept that, according to the company, combines sensory experiences and cross-category solutions for the cosmetics industry. The focus is on hybrid approaches that combine care and skin protection with styling functions and sensory experiences in order to respond to changing consumer behaviour. The concepts incorporate natural textures and are designed to help the skin recover from harmful environmental influences. "Understanding how people live and express themselves inspires new beauty trends and shapes innovative products and care routines," said Valérie Pian-Parison, Senior Marketing Manager France.
Thicker hair with sea buckthorn
The Personal Care division's concept encompasses several formulations and active ingredients for long-lasting skin care, hair care and shower gel, environmentally conscious UV protection and make-up for a healthy, well-groomed complexion. This includes the ingredient Aloversil with natural peptides, which BASF says is designed to help men with visible hair loss achieve thicker hair. The active ingredient is made from sea buckthorn press cake, a by-product of juice and oil production that is 100 per cent natural. The ingredient contributes to a healthy scalp, which is the basis for strong, full and resilient hair. In clinical studies, daily use over several months led to visible improvements in hair density, the company said.
Conditioner made from carbon
At the same time, BASF has introduced Dehyquart S18, a biodegradable conditioning agent for hair care formulas that is designed to improve moisture and style control in high humidity conditions. The care ingredient is intended for use in conditioners, hair masks and hair treatments in particular. It consists of 78 per cent renewable carbon, is easily biodegradable and is also suitable for formulations with silicone alternatives as well as for vegan and cruelty-free products. The company's aim is to offer an effective natural alternative to conventional formulations. Further products are to follow in the coming months. The planned segments include long-lasting skin care, combined hair and body care, UV protection and make-up formulations with a healthy glow.
