Freshness from Kānuka leaves
Lucas Meyer unveils natural active ingredient to combat perspiration
Lucas Meyer Cosmetics by Clariant has introduced KanuFresh, a new natural active ingredient for controlling sweat and body odour. The company stated that the ingredient, derived from Australian Kānuka leaves, is designed to bridge the gap between traditional deodorants and sweat-control solutions, reducing visible signs of sweat and odour formation. At the same time, the active ingredient supports a balanced skin environment and is also suitable for sensitive areas of the body.
Visible signs of sweat halved
Unlike products that merely mask odours, the effect of KanuFresh is based on a multi-stage mechanism that keeps the skin dry, fresh and comfortable: visible sweat is reduced by regulating ion channel activity, odour formation is minimised by inhibiting odour-causing enzymes, and inflammation and oxidative stress are prevented. However, the skin’s natural microbial balance is not compromised during use. Clinical trials showed that visible signs of sweat were reduced by up to 54 per cent and odour intensity by 44 per cent. Skin irritation was reduced by 35 per cent. The effects lasted for up to 24 hours. The active ingredient was also tested under conditions of stress and physical exertion on the hands and underarms of men and women with different skin types.
Biodegradable
According to Lucas Meyer Cosmetics, KanuFresh is a plant extract derived from the leaves of the Kānuka tree. The plant is native primarily to New Zealand and Australia; it belongs to the myrtle family and grows as a shrub or tree. The leaves are traditionally used for medicinal purposes, as they contain anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial compounds. The active ingredient is biodegradable and is produced using renewable energy, according to the company. KanuFresh meets COSMOS standards, is vegan and halal, and complies with international cosmetics regulations, including those for the Chinese market. This means the active ingredient can be used in personal care formulations worldwide.
