The German masterbatch manufacturer Lifocolor has unveiled a new solution for PET bottles that gives plastic bottles the velvety feel of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The bottle, which combines the soft, high-quality feel of HDPE extrusion bottles with the process advantages of PET production, will be presented at CosmeticBusiness on 10 -11 June in Munich, the company reports. The silky feel could provide brands with a reason to switch from HDPE materials to PET, thereby complying with the new EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR).

Metallic and holograms

In addition, the manufacturer of colour masterbatches and additives has developed further effects for plastic packaging. For instance, abrasion-resistant laser markings enable decorative ornaments, patterns and images to be created without the use of printing inks or solvents. Metallic masterbatches for colouring plastics also provide the metallic finishes sought after in the cosmetics industry. Furthermore, the company is introducing new holographic effects: Specially coated glitter pigments create a play of light with a three-dimensional depth effect when exposed to direct light. “Both innovations are effective at dosages as low as two per cent, and can be processed using injection moulding or bottle-blowing techniques,” says Lifocolor.

Colour effects for cosmetics

The Bavarian company now also offers recyclable masterbatches for cosmetic applications, as the PPWR has brought greater focus to the recyclability of packaging. In addition, the company is presenting “Shades of Beauty & Care 2027”, a collection of 36 shades from four thematic worlds that reflect current trends in consumer behaviour and are designed to support brands in packaging design. “In the beauty industry in particular, colours, effects and texture are an essential part of a successful sales strategy and serve as a means of emotional expression for consumers,” says Diana Seidel, Head of Product Management & Marketing. Lifocolor is exhibiting at CosmeticBusiness at stand D16 in Hall 4.
