Douglas Group grows faster than expected

Cosmetics and perfume chain extremely satisfied after IPO

The cosmetics and perfumery chain Douglas continued to grow in the year of its IPO. In the financial year from October 2023 to the end of September 2024, Group sales rose by 8.7 per cent to 4.45 billion euros, the company has now announced. The Douglas Group thus significantly exceeded its sales forecasts. Both store sales, at a good eight per cent, and the online business, at almost ten per cent, contributed to this. The company has made great progress with its growth strategy, driven forward its debt reduction and sharpened its profile as a leading premium beauty retailer.

Falling debt, growing sales

On balance, the Group achieved a significantly higher net result of 84 million euros in the previous financial year, compared to just over 16 million euros in the same period of the previous year. "In combination with our significantly improved financial profile, we have a tailwind to further strengthen our leading market position," said Douglas Group CEO Sander van der Laan. Based on these results, the company expects sales to increase to up to 4.8 billion euros and consolidated net profit of up to 265 million euros in 2025. Douglas returned to the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in March 2024 with a high level of debt, after having been listed on the stock exchange until 2013. The debt has since been massively reduced.

Advertising space for beauty brands

At the beginning of 2025, the company will also start the rollout of an internationally standardised customer loyalty programme with graduated beauty cards, omnichannel activations and other benefits designed to reward customers for loyalty when making purchases. Douglas is also expanding its range of retail media solutions with the introduction of a new self-service platform for media partners. Based on its leading market position and data capacities, the company aims to offer partners and new brands outside its network access to high-quality target groups in the beauty industry. The Douglas Group will introduce direct access to bookable advertising space in nine countries during the first quarter.

More sustainability, more shops

At the same time, the company is continuing to expand its store network. The Group, with the brands Douglas, Nocibé, Parfumdreams and Niche Beauty, currently has around 1,880 shops in Europe and employs 19,200 people across Europe. The group is increasingly focussing on social and ecological sustainability and a pioneering role in the premium beauty industry: the company is now a leading employer that empowers women. At the same time, the chain has significantly reduced its CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
