dm enjoys healthy growth

Karlsruhe-based drugstore chain focuses on health products after increase in sales

The drugstore chain dm increased its Europe-wide sales by eight per cent to €19.2 billion in the 2024/2025 financial year, with sales in Germany alone reaching €13.3 billion. Online sales grew significantly faster than brick-and-mortar sales, the company announced. Expanded product ranges and new services helped to win customers and market share, said CEO Christoph Werner. The company expanded its leading position in the drugstore market to 27.5 per cent in Germany, according to figures from market research institute Nielsen IQ.

On-site skin screenings

Werner announced plans to expand the company's range of medical and health services. In addition to modernising several hundred stores and expanding new digital structures, a mail-order pharmacy is also planned. dm is also setting up pilot projects in some markets with medical partners for eye screenings, AI-supported skin analyses and blood analyses. In addition, a range of self-tests with laboratory diagnostics will be introduced under the Mivolis brand. To meet growing online demand, a second distribution centre will be opened in Heideloh near Leipzig by February, in addition to the site in Bor, Czech Republic. Investments in the 2025/2026 financial year are expected to rise to a total of more than £250 million. The focus will also be on further developing the omnichannel strategy and expanding pick-up stations and self-service checkouts.

Customers and colleagues satisfied

To promote an environmentally sustainable business model, dm is investing in 60 additional photovoltaic systems on branch roofs and participating in the Borkum Riffgrund 3 offshore wind farm. In addition, detergents with surfactants derived from CO₂ will be introduced and will go on sale for the first time in November. The company achieves high satisfaction ratings in surveys: according to a Statista study commissioned by Stern magazine, dm was voted Germany's most popular employer in 2025. According to a YouGov analysis in cooperation with Handelsblatt, dm is considered the most popular brand in the country. The group operates around 4,200 stores in Europe, around half of which are in Germany, and has more than 93,000 employees.
