CosmeticBusiness showcases innovative ingredients for cosmetics
Modern biotechnology and nature’s traditional healing powers are increasingly transforming beauty and personal care. This year’s CosmeticBusiness, taking place on 10 and 11 June at the MOC Munich under the motto ‘Shaping Trends into Products’, will showcase numerous such innovations. Natural skincare and healthy ageing, under the banner of ‘longevity’, are playing an increasingly important role. We present the key trends.
Trend 1: Ultra-fine needles for skincare
Natural microneedles designed to open up the skin to active ingredients and aid the absorption of creams and ointments – several companies are following this trend. The active ingredient supplier GfN Herstellung von Naturextrakten is presenting so-called ‘sponge spicules’ from sustainably cultivated freshwater sponges at CosmeticBusiness. Cosmetics manufacturer Neo Cos is also presenting a cream containing microscopically fine needle-like structures derived from marine sponges, which are designed to aid skin renewal. In addition, the company Summit Cosmetics Europe has developed mineral spicules measuring around ten micrometres in size, which offer an alternative to sponge spicules and are also intended to create fine microchannels in the skin’s surface.
Trend 2: Effects on skin cells
Modern biotechnological processes enable cosmetic active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin cells. The British active ingredient manufacturer Croda Beauty has, for example, further developed an existing Pro-Age ingredient so that it transports active ingredients more efficiently into deeper layers of the skin. To achieve this, substances are encapsulated in tiny fat globules. Croda is presenting the process at CosmeticBusiness. Provital Cosmetic Ingredients, a German subsidiary of the Spanish Provital Group, is presenting an active ingredient derived from apple blossoms in Munich, which is said to positively influence fat cell metabolism and thus improve the appearance of the skin.
Trend 3: Back to nature
Greener and healthier: The EU’s European Green Deal and the growing demand for sustainable products are transforming cosmetic formulations. For example, colour cosmetics manufacturer Nele Kosmetik is showcasing a vegan formulation at CosmeticBusiness that combines decorative cosmetics and body care. French chemical company Seppic is introducing a natural, biodegradable polymer for green formulations, and SLI Chemicals, a supplier of specialty chemicals and cosmetic raw materials, is presenting a natural texturiser derived from the root of the konjac plant. MaBitec, a wholesaler specialising in marine raw materials, has also added SeaCALM to its range – an innovative, plant-based active ingredient extract inspired by the regenerative capacity of a green seaweed and designed to strengthen the balance of the skin’s flora.
