Cellulose for the cosmetics industry

Seprify begins mass production following funding round

Swiss biomaterials company Seprify, which develops non-toxic, cost-effective ingredients for industrial applications from cellulose, is expanding its pilot phase to scalable production. With the help of manufacturing partners, several hundred tonnes per year of high-performance ingredients and consumer goods are to be produced in future. This will enable long-term contracts with customers who wish to switch from emission-intensive materials such as titanium dioxide to efficient bio-based alternatives, the company announced. The cellulose platform is currently undergoing supplier qualification processes to secure contracts in sectors such as cosmetics, personal care, food and coatings. For this new phase, Seprify is receiving Series A funding of €13.4 million from investors including the Inter IKEA Group, Zürcher Kantonalbank and other investors from the circular economy sector.
