Beauty under the Christmas tree

According to the IKW, cosmetics are a popular gift among younger people

Almost two-thirds of people are happy to receive beauty care products as Christmas gifts. This is shown by the latest survey conducted by the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (IKW). According to the survey conducted by market research company Lönneker & Imdahl rheingold salon, this figure rises to 72 per cent among women. Three out of four respondents in the under 39 age group also enjoy unwrapping cosmetic gifts under the Christmas tree. Women are also more generous when it comes to cosmetics. Almost 30 per cent plan to give care or beauty products as gifts this year. Among men, the figure is around a quarter. The 30 to 39 age group is particularly active: 56 per cent have given cosmetics as gifts before, and at least 48 per cent want to do so again this year.

Special cosmetics for Christmas

According to the survey, many people associate beauty products with personal time out. At 54 per cent, more than half of those surveyed say they like to receive cosmetics as gifts if they are something special that they would not buy for themselves in everyday life. At more than 60 per cent, women are even more delighted to receive a small beauty luxury. Perfumes are the favourite gifts. 79 per cent of the women and men surveyed like to give a fragrance as a gift. Almost 70 per cent are delighted when they receive a fragrance as a gift themselves. Bath additives, shower products, body lotions and decorative cosmetics are also popular surprises.

The anticipation grows as you get ready

For most people, styling with make-up, hairstyling and fragrance is also part of a successful Christmas Eve. 53 per cent said that they consider getting ready to be an integral part of the holiday spirit. Younger people in particular say they enjoy the ritual. Among 30- to 39-year-olds, the figure is 71 per cent. "For many people, cosmetic products are simply part of Christmas," emphasises Birgit Huber, Head of Beauty Care at IKW. This includes fragrant surprises, little moments of wellness and skincare. "The survey results show that cosmetics bring people together, bring joy and add extra sparkle to the festive season."
