Kao develops technology for improved skin comfort in hot environments

Japanese cosmetics group Kao has unveiled a new skin technology that distributes sweat more quickly on the skin, allowing it to dry faster. The aim is to achieve a more pleasant skin feel in hot environments. At the same time, the technology is designed to support the natural perspiration function, the company said. The perspiration technology helps to spread sweat more quickly across the skin, allowing it to dry faster. The main aim is to reduce the unpleasant sticky feeling on the skin in hot weather, according to the company.

Less stickiness in climate change

In light of climate change, many people around the world are affected by increasingly sticky skin and body odour. According to Kao, the company has been working for some time to harness the natural function of sweat. Sweat plays an important role in regulating body temperature and cooling the body through evaporation. Therefore, the aim is not to stop sweating, but to make the skin feel more comfortable. According to the company, the development is based on the knowledge that sweat forms in droplets on the hydrophobic skin surface and evaporates only slowly. This can lead to the formation of unpleasant residues from sweat and skin oils.

Use of porous silica

According to Kao, the new technology combines a hydrophilic powder with porous silica, which distributes sweat more evenly on the skin and thus shortens the evaporation time. Initial tests with prototypes on synthetic leather surfaces showed that the time it took for artificial sweat to evaporate was one third shorter than without the new technology. The company announced that it would intensify its research on sweat and advance methods for reducing sweat discomfort in hot environments. According to the company, the development is still in an early stage. However, research will continue in order to explore possible applications.
