Alliance warns against ethanol ban
Companies and institutions protest against planned EU reclassification
More than 800 companies, institutions and associations have issued a joint statement opposing the EU's planned classification of ethanol in disinfectants as carcinogenic and toxic to reproduction. Such a classification would amount to a de facto ban and would have serious consequences for public health and numerous industries, warn the signatories – including cosmetics manufacturers and institutions and companies from the healthcare sector, such as the president of the Robert Koch Institute and several university hospitals. Ethanol is a key ingredient in disinfectants, antiseptics and many other products and is indispensable for public health.
