L'Oréal presents new Longevity concept for skincare
At its first Longevity event in Paris, the L'Oréal Group presented the "Longevity Integrative Science" concept, which is designed to enable preventive skin care. The new concept is based on the latest scientific findings and shifts the focus from treating symptoms to preventing and combating the biological causes of skin ageing. "The beauty industry can thus contribute to healthy ageing," emphasised Barbara Lavernos, Chief Research, Innovation and Technology Officer of the L'Oréal Group. L'Oréal is focussing on an integrative approach with three pillars: Cell health research, innovative diagnostic tools and novel active ingredients and product developments.
Understanding biomarkers with AI
The Longevity AI Cloud will be used to analyse more than 260 biomarkers in order to better understand the mechanisms of skin ageing that influence the vitality and youthfulness of the skin. The comprehensive bio-mapping is a first in the beauty industry, emphasises L'Oreal. The company is also working with several international research partners and biotech companies to accelerate the discovery of new active ingredients and drive the development of advanced diagnostic tools. The first results include diagnostic tools such as "Cell BioPrint", which can measure the biomarkers of longevity under the skin within five minutes. It enables consumers to influence the course of their personal skin ageing. The "Tru Diagnostic" tool also utilises the connection between beauty and epigenetics and provides innovations that promote the long-term health of skin and hair.
First new products are here
In addition, there are new active ingredients such as the molecule Mitopure from the Swiss biotech company Timeline. According to L'Oreal, it rejuvenates ageing mitochondria, the power stations of the cells. The Group has acquired a minority stake in Timeline. Another strategic partnership with the Chinese biotech start-up Veminsyn is intended to help with the discovery, development and scaling of innovative and sustainable bio-active ingredients and cosmetic ingredients. The first product innovations include the Lancôme "Absolue" Longevity Soft Cream and the "Longevity Revolumising Cream" from the Vichy Neovadiol range. Both products are based on innovative technologies and exclusive combinations of active ingredients.
