Strong Start for German Cosmetics Companies

The End of the Corona Restrictions Is Reviving Decorative Cosmetics

In Germany, sales of beauty and home care products increased by 16.5 per cent in the first quarter of 2023 compared to the same period last year. This was announced by the German Cosmetic, Toiletry, Perfumery and Detergent Association (Industrieverband Körperpflege- und Waschmittel; IKW). Accordingly, its member companies were able to increase their total turnover in Germany to 5.1 billion euros. The cosmetics and personal care sector grew particularly strongly by 22.2 per cent to 3.9 billion euros. By far the largest increase after the end of the Corona measures reportedly was recorded by decorative cosmetics with a plus of 49.4 per cent. However, the predominantly medium-sized companies in the sector continue to be under pressure from high energy prices and the ongoing shortage of raw materials, according to the IKW.
