Unilever Group and global crop protection specialist Nufarm are developing a new ‘crop of the future’ to provide oils for household, beauty and personal care brands. The strategic partnership aims to cultivate plants with significant biomass for the production of sustainable oils, both companies announced. Unilever wants to utilise recent breakthroughs in biotechnology and develop an ‘energy pipe’ that can produce biomass oil. The idea is to use not just seeds or flowers, but the entire plant with leaves and stems.
