Mycelium for Laricyl Now Cultivated Sustainably

Solid-State Fermentation Replaces Harvesting from the Wild

BASF Personal Care is releasing a revised version of its active ingredient Laricyl. According to the company, the active features a more sustainable cultivation of the raw material and offers enhanced efficacy. Laricyl is an extract from the Fomes officinalis mushroom. As a cosmetic active ingredient it reportedly has a pore-refining effect. The new production process relies on a method that cultivates the mycelium, the vegetative part of the fungus, by solid-state fermentation. This replaces the harvesting of the mushroom from the wild.
