Beauty trend skinmalism

Quadpack's Creative Hub expects a more universal cosmetics industry

The international leading manufacturer of cosmetic packaging Quadpack published its latest beauty trends at the turn of the year. Based on market data, the new analysis offers insights into future macro trends and consumer behaviour up to 2026. ‘The results of our Creative Hub paint a picture of a polarising but friendly and inclusive world that values community and transparency,’ reports Quadpack. ‘It is a world in which multisensory products and packaging are designed to make people of all ages and talents feel comfortable.’

Plush packaging for joie de vivre

According to the analysis, the beauty industry is on the verge of a transformation towards a holistic approach that prioritises inclusion, well-being, simplicity and honesty. A central trend here is universal usability. It is expected that product designs will increasingly be age-independent in order to appeal to all age groups and talents. This will make packaging forms more ergonomic and user-friendly, without neglecting aesthetic aspects. Traditional designs will combine nostalgic charm and contemporary practicality, according to Quadpack. As consumers become increasingly exhausted in a more stressful world, demand is also growing for products that offer relief and comfort. In addition, multisensory products and packaging are being developed to appeal to all the senses and enhance joie de vivre. For example, in the future, packaging will be designed using plush materials that are tactile and trigger emotional responses.

Minimalism as a driving force

Minimalism in particular is gaining traction in skincare - in response to the complexity of multi-step beauty care. This 'skinmalism' focuses on simplifying skincare, using fewer products to achieve effective results. With many consumers favouring natural and healthy skin, they are forgoing heavy make-up and opting for simple, pared-down skincare routines. At the same time, skinmalism demands efficient packaging and easy application. Packaging with features such as applicators, dual-chamber systems for mixing ingredients and travel-friendly formats for on-the-go use are therefore in high demand. Time-saving solutions such as one-hand operation and pump dispensers with precise dosage are also coming the fore.

Optimisation for Insta

Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram are now massively influencing the way beauty products are developed, discovered and sold. Many brands are therefore changing their formulas and packaging to be visually compelling and optimised for social media, reports Quadpack. The trend towards influencer marketing means that more products are being presented with visual impact that stand out in short videos. Unboxing experiences and content-related storytelling are also becoming increasingly important. Packaging should be optimised for social media shopping in order to increase purchase decisions via app, advises Quadpack.
