Werner & Mertz's New Recycling Quality Mark
The Mainz-based company Werner & Mertz is involved in the establishment of a new quality seal for packaging. The RAL Quality Mark was launched in October 2018 and is intended to indicate the proportion of household waste used in the product packaging of member companies. In addition to Werner & Mertz, the other partners in the founding association include Der Grüne Punkt, ALPLA and the honorary member NABU.
Household Recyclate Labelling
The RAL Quality Mark is a new independent quality seal for product identification. It indicates what percentage of recyclate from the Yellow Bag (German household plastic recycling) is used in the packaging of the product. Recycled materials from industrial waste are intentionally not listed as an incentive to recycle household waste.
Recycled Packaging Acceptance and Transparency
This new label is intended to increase the transparency of products for consumers. Simultaneously, however, it is hoped that there will be an increase in the acceptance of recycled packaging on the market, according to the chairwoman of the newly founded Gütegemeinschaft Rezyklate aus haushaltsnaher Wertstoffsammlung (Association for Recyclate from Houshold Materials).
Strict Quality Controls
The packaging, which is to bear the new quality mark, is subject to the strictest quality controls. This includes the documentation of every stage of the recycling process and the monitoring of all production sites. The certification will then be carried out by independent experts. The first cosmetic products by Werner & Mertz to bear the new label are the new Frosch shower gel bottles.
