The dm-drogerie markt Group has succeeded for the first time in achieving sales of over EUR 6 billion in the business year 2010/2011. "The excellent development of the last years continues" says Erich Harsch, Chairman of the management board of dm-drogerie markt. dm grossed sales of EUR 4.5 billion in Germany. "Here at home in Germany, our sales experienced double-digit growth of 10.1 percent. These figures clearly exceed our planned target", says Erich Harsch. The company achieved sales growth of 9.3 percent in Europe in its 2,536 branch stores in Germany and ten further subsidiaries in southern European countries.
Strong market player in Europe
In Austria and southern Europe, turnover amounted to EUR 1.7 billion in the business year 2010/2011. With sales growth of 7.2 percent and 62 new markets, dm was thus able to further expand its position as a relevant player abroad as well. In the Czech Republic, the 200th dm-drogerie markt store was opened; Bulgaria already has 33 branch stores after the initial store was opened two years ago.
dm investing heavily
Following dm’s heavy investment in new distribution centres in the last years, the investments will be focused on the branch stores in the coming business year. “dm-drogerie markt will invest more than EUR 100 million in Germany and more than EUR 50 million in new and existing dm-drogerie markt stores abroad. The business year 2011/2012 will see the opening of 110 new dm stores in Germany alone.
Highest market share in drugstore merchandise
According to dm, a comparison of the competitive situation was multi-dimensional due to the product range structure of the drugstores. "Among the drugstores in 2010, market researchers saw dm with a market share of 30.1 percent just behind Schlecker with 31 percent and dm followed by Rossmann and Müller", announced the company.
Number of dm quality brands on the rise
dm-drogerie markt has expanded its range of quality brands to more than 2,900 articles in the meantime. The range comprises 22 different brand families, Balea being the strongest brand with more than 500 products.
