For 92 percent of Germans a well-kempt appearance is the most important aspect of someone’s beauty, followed by a positive attitude to life (89%). This is the result of a representative forsa survey, carried out on behalf of the people magazine GALA prior to the GALA SPA AWARDS .
GALA wanted to know from the Germans, what personal beauty means to them. A well-cared for outward appearance is equally important for men (91%) and women (93%). Young men up to the age of 29 also see beauty in a charming smile (88%) and a pretty face (85%). As the years pass, however, an increasingly stronger positive attitude to life (e.g. 87% of 45 to 59-year olds) which beauty bestows becomes apparent.
Women pay less attention than men to a pretty face (61 to 76%) or a good figure (53 to 67%). What is more important to them than men, however, is nice hair (75 to 62%). Physical fitness (63%) also impresses women much less than a fully positive attitude (92%). But there is one thing which everyone polled agrees about: Beauty is determined more by whether someone is happy and actually projects this (89%) than a good figure (60%).
In addition, GALA asked German women about beauty treatment, which has boomed over the last few years, such as manicures, cosmetic treatment or depilation: 67 percent of the population’s women believe that these services attract more customers today than just several years ago. Particularly three quarters (76%) of 14 to 29-year-old women seem to feel that the wider range of beauty treatment on offer also attracts greater custom and, likewise, increasingly goes without saying when it comes to personal care.
It is also precisely the 14 to 29-year-old women, who are becoming increasingly devoted to beauty: 44 per cent say that they spend more time and money today on beauty treatment. Every third woman aged 30 to 44 also says that she treats herself to more beauty treatment and is prepared to invest time and money in this. In the entire population the proportion of those who spend more time and money on beauty treatment stands at 31 percent.
