Beiersdorf appoints new Executive Board member for Europe; Peter Feld, formerly General Manager of Johnson & Johnson GmbH Germany, will be the new Executive Board member

As part of the strategy “Focus on Skin Care. Closer to markets.” which was announced at the end of March, Beiersdorf’s Executive Board was restructured as of May 1, 2010. Thereby, two functional and three regional areas of responsibility (Europe, Americas, Asia) were created in addition to the functional area CEO.

On September 1, 2010, Peter Feld (44) will take over as Executive Board member for Region Europe, which has been managed by the Chairman of the Executive Board Thomas-B. Quaas on an interim basis. Peter Feld, a graduate engineer, has worked for the US health care corporation Johnson & Johnson for six years and has been the chairman of the management board of Johnson & Johnson GmbH in Düsseldorf since 2007. His areas of responsibility included the consumer business segment as well as the non-prescription medication business (OTC). As area managing director, he was also responsible for the region Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Benelux. Before his time at Johnson & Johnson, Peter Feld was active in executive positions at Procter & Gamble – including management for Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Before that he supervised numerous projects in Europe, China and the United States, and was active overseas for a total of twelve years.

“With Peter Feld we are getting an experienced and competent Executive Board member for our core region Europe, and this makes me very happy. He brings precisely the excellent combination of regional business responsibility and broad international experience in the consumer goods area that we need for the further development of our market position in Europe,” says Executive Board Chairman Thomas-B. Quaas in introducing the new member of the Executive Board.

In addition, Pieter Nota, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer of Beiersdorf AG, will leave the company as of June 30, 2010. Pieter Nota, who was born in Wageningen (Netherlands), has been responsible for the area Marketing, Sales and R&D as a member of the Executive Board. He has asked the Supervisory Board to release him from his contractual obligations prematurely to take up a top management position at a large brand-name company in his homeland, the Netherlands. The Supervisory Board complied with his wish.

In the future, the areas Marketing, Sales and R&D will be combined with the area Supply Chain, and managed in their entirety in the newly created Executive Board function Brands & Supply Chain. As a result, for the first time all product-related areas will be directed from a single source. The Executive Board area Brands & Supply Chain will be taken over by Markus Pinger as of July 1, 2010. Since 2005 Markus Pinger has been a member of Beiersdorf AG’s Executive Board, and within this time he has successfully brought about a far-reaching, international realignment of the Supply Chain. Marcus Pinger’s successor as Executive Board member responsible for the Americas region, will be named at a later date.

Chairman of the Executive Board Thomas-B. Quaas expects the new appointment to provide noticeable positive momentum: “With the newly created Executive Board function Brands & Supply Chain, we are bundling together all product-related areas, from the creative idea of a product, through its technical development and on to its production, marketing and delivery. As a result, we are creating optimal conditions for a fast and effective innovation process without any friction losses. By ensuring product developments from a single source, we will maximize the innovative power of our brands, and Beiersdorf will gain a valuable competitive advantage.”
